Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Harpenden VI on Sat 09 Jul 2011 at 1.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report Saturday, 2nd July. Sheikhs. Couple of beers down. Prakash Tailor and Tarang Katira: “You know what we’re missing? Music!”. And music it was. Come 9th July, there was an iPod, an iPod speaker, the tunes that each batsman had selected to walk out to, and the team tune. C-R-I-C-K-E-T. Of course, Town won.

The opposition arrived late and were stuck in to bat. Town’s opening bowlers did well to control the opposition’s aggressive opening batsmen. Tarang Katira (29/3 of 13) bowled with pace and accuracy, while his four balls of spin also earned him a wicket. At the other end, Mitesh Parmar (35/2 off 12) was his usual consistent, energised self – line and length, and shining the ball.

Meeth Katira came back remarkably well (48/4 off 12) after an early onslaught from one of the opposition’s openers, relying on good swing and seam movement and some excellent lines and lengths throughout his second spell. He was well supported by Rao Ganisetti (12/1 off 5), who continues to teach the 3s innovative ways to appeal. Today, one of his appeals was “THAT WAS OUT!!!”. Forget “Howzzat??”. That’s so 19th century. At least the shirt stayed on this week.

With the opposition having got off to a flyer, restricting them to 146 all out was a fantastic feat for Town, and bar the usual Town hiccups, Town made light work of the chase, knocking off the runs in less than 30 overs.

At the top of the order, Jon Bentvelzen (20, 3x4s) and Rao Ganisetti (14, 2x4s) dazzled in an aggressive stand of 37, while Rajul Patel’s (17, 4x4s) uncharacteristic aggression made sure that the run-rate momentum was well and truly in Town’s favour.

However, in the pursuit of aggression, Town’s shot selection started to lose its way, and wickets started to tumble in classic Town fashion. Town stuttered from 56/2 after 11 overs to 86/6 after 20. Thankfully, no further wickets were lost as Town creamed to victory.

At 86/6, skipper Tarang Katira (14 not out, 2x4s) joined Havan Patel (42 not out, 6x4s) to put on an unbeaten stand of 61 in just under 10 overs, led particularly by some breathtaking shots from Patel and some strong running between the wickets. A comfortable win in the end, with 4 wickets and 15 overs still to spare.

Well done Town – super effort all round. Let the music play.
