Boxmoor v Northwood Town Cricket Club Sunday XI on Sun 24 Apr 2011 at 1.30pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 112 runs
Match report
A strong-ish Boxmoor team won the toss and elected to bat first. Northwood Town’s bowlers bowled well in patches, but could not stop two strong opposition batsmen (who between them scored 217 of the 259 runs) taking the game away from them.
By far the standout performer with the ball was David Harding, bowling an impeccable line and length, and generating enough swing to trouble the batsmen. He retuned figures of 10/1 from his 6 overs. Mitesh Parmar and Tarang Katira were the other wicket-takers, while Akshay Loomba and Ravi Kotecha bowled well without much success.
Northwood Town’s fielding was good on the whole – and Havan Patel and Mitesh Parmar stood out in particular, putting their bodies behind everything that game their way. Akshay Loomba took a smart catch at slip, while Suvin Mekwas was tidy behind the stumps.
Chasing 259 from their allotted 40 overs, Northwood Town kept up with their required run-rate throughout, but lost wickets to some good bowling throughout. Akshay Loomba (34) in particular provided a good start, but there were no significant contributions from the rest of the top order. Two middle order partnerships between Ravi Kotecha (41) and Ishmeet Singh (15) and then Ravi Kotecha (41) and Tarang Katira (21) kept Northwood Town in the hunt for a few overs, but once Kotecha was dismissed, Northwood Town saw its customary lower order collapse, leaving Town 112 shy of its target.
Overall a reasonable first outing for many of Northwood Town’s players, with plenty of positives and a few points to pick up on.
