Match report On a rain-effected day, the pure keenness of both participating teams ensured that the 40-over-a-side re-match between Ricky and Town went ahead. For the sake of statistics, this was Town’s first Sunday 2XI fixture in decades, and one game in, the record reads 100% wins. Worth mentioning, while it lasts!

More practically, this was a second game in two days for effectively the same XI, and the energy levels were absolutely amazing for that bunch of players.

Town was stuck in to field on a wet field and decided to open the bowling with the unusual pairing of Kunal Sanghi and Amit Parmar. The former in particular bowled really well, and once the ball got drier, was backed up fantastically by Town’s more usual bowlers –Sachin Dave (5/3 off 8), Tarang Katira (6/2 off 3), Prakash Tailor (21/2 off 5), Minesh Vadgama (13/1 off 5) and Mitesh Parmar (14/1 off 6). To mention any one bowler in particular would be a disservice to the relentless display by all involved.

Moreover, Town stayed chirpy in the field throughout, the ground-fielding was almost completely error-free for the second day running, and Amit Parmar took a blinder of a catch on the move from mid-wicket. Town restricted an in-theory strong batting line-up to a mere 108. With a power-packed batting line-up, Town was expecting to cruise through that score – and they did.

Jon Bentvelzen (23) and Rajul Patel (16 not out) put on a solid opening stand of 47 in 13 overs, particularly good in perspective of facing two good bowlers in Asif and Mohammad. In a very un-Town-like fashion, there were no collapses and Tarang Katira (17) and Minesh Vadgama (12 not out) continued the good work, as Town cruised home to a second successive panic-less win in as many days, yet again courtesy of a mature run-chase.
