Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Old Elizabethans II on Sat 21 Jul 2012 at 1.00pm
Match was Drawn

Match report Northwood Town 2nd XI picked up a valuable 16 points from a highly entertaining draw with Old Elizabethans 2s. With the sun finally shining, the Chestnut Avenue wicket was very green but in truth played well and got flatter as the day went on. Skipper Ravi Ramawat lost the toss (again) and Town were asked to bat first.

Kunal Sanghi and Suvin Mekwan knuckled down well on the tricky wicket and knocked the ball around well. Scoring was slow but Town's batsmen weren't giving their wickets away. The disappointing stat though was that all of the top five made starts but no-one managed to go on to score that big score to put Town in a commanding position. Sanghi (21) and Mekwan (24) went in quick succession and Ramawat made a swift 17 before playing all round a straight one. Andy Burt continued his good form with a classy 35 before being superbly caught on the boundary off the bowling of Nav Parkar, the first of six wickets for OE's spinner. Burt was part of a 4th wicket partnership of 53 with Rich Robbins (22) which took Town to 134 with 15 overs to go. The middle order were unable to really kick the score on but Nish Mapara (17) batted with patience to take Town upto 185 and 8 batting points.

With a strong bowling attack on a green wicket, Town came out after a wonderful tea full of confidence of picking up 30 points. When Neal Furmenger removed Hylton in the third over, things looked like they were going to plan. But a second wicket partnership between Heavey and OEs wicketkeeper (name unknown as OEs left straight after the game without giving us a chance to copy up the scorebook - cheers!!) brought the visitors back into the game. They rotated the strikr very well and put away the bad balls with vigour. It was the introduction of the slower bowlers that brought rewards for Town with Bobby Graham and Suvin Mekwan both picking up a couple of wickets each. Up to that point, Town had looked beaten in the field and OEs were favourites for victory. But Town continued to plug away and wickets kept falling. OEs required 34 runs off the final 7 overs and ultimately fell just 2 runs short.

A huge game with Greenwood Park, who took 4th place from Town after the game - awaits next weekend.
