Match report May 19th 2012, league match number two for the Mighty 3s. The opponents, Old Camdenians III (OC3) at their home ground in Mill Hill.

Town won the toss and invited OC3 to bat first. M.Katira (13.4ovrs , 3mnds, 17runs 4wkts) and M.Abbasi (7ovrs , 1 mnds, 35runs 1wkt) provided a sound start taking wickets on a regular basis which saw OC3 lose 3 wickets for circa 29 runs. S.Dave (9ovrs , 4mnds, 10runs 2wkts) joined the wicket taking frenzy with M.Katira resulting in OC3 losing a further 3 wickets for circa 13runs. Although OC3’s 7thand 8th batsman provided a stubborn resistance to Town’s bowling attack, the breakthrough came when F.Abbasi (3ovrs , 0 mnds, 4runs 2wkt) joined the bowling party and took 2 quick wickets in 3 balls. Two additional by wickets by T.Katira and M.Katira saw OC3 conclude their innings on 88 runs of 37overs.

Chasing a target of 89 runs over 53 overs Town needed a run rate just below 2 an over. Town started their innings in prudent fashion. J.Bentvelzen (10) and A.Firfire (15, 1x4s) provided an outstanding platform by ensuring 45 runs were added to the scoreboard before the fall of the first wicket. However, what followed next was heart stopping mayhem for it was time for OC3 to feast in their own wicket taking frenzy. One by one wickets started falling leaving OC3 in full control of the match and driving them inches towards victory. After the fall of Town’s first wicket at 45runs wickets fell at 49, 51, 53, 56, 74, 81, and 84. However, Town did crawl their way out of the mire. The tension was ridiculous, the pressure was mad but the Mighty 3s were not going to down without a fight. M.Katira provided some excellent die hard tail end resistance which enabled Town to post 88 runs on the scoreboard. With the scores level and plenty of overs remaining Town need just 1 run for victory. OC3’s spin bowler A.Norman was called to ensure Town’s R.Patel did not score that run. A.Norman, on his third ball pitched a good length delivery outside off stump which R.Patel sliced straight towards slip. The slip fielder dropped a sitter and the ball tricked away behind him which provide the golden ticket to scramble home the winning run.
