Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Northwood on Sat 04 Jul 2009 at 1.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets
Match report
NORTHWOOD TOWN lost the Northwood derby by a comprehensive seven wickets as a lack of batting application woefully cost the relegation threatened team again. Batting first, the returning captain Raj Ahluwalia elected to stick with the openers from previous weeks and Johanes Van Ee got off to an explosive start as he took on the visiting bowlers in an aggressive fashion. His quickfire 30 got Town up to 42 in seven overs but, as can so often be the case, the attacking policy was also punctured by regular wickets.
Rohan Lee (40) played his usual sensible patient role, but he was left exposed by a combination of poor shot selection from his fellow batsmen and some eye-raising decisions. Despite Lee's efforts, the hosts collapsed to an inadequate 102 all out, leaving an almost impossible task. In return Northwood elected to adopt the same positive approach that the hosts had taken and Danny Rogers in particular was keen to get on and win the game quickly. The visitors soon raced to 70 without loss before Dave Bushnell, Van Ee and Phil Costard picked up a late wicket each. Nevertheless, Northwood claimed full bragging rights in the derby as they eased home with seven wickets to spare.
Ahluwalia was disappointed with the performance:
"The fact that nine batsmen got just 32 runs between them says a lot really. Our batting was very poor and clearly we are not reaching a standard we need to if we are going to be competitive at this level"
