Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Northchurch on Sat 11 Jul 2009 at 1.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 77 runs

Match report NORTHWOOD TOWN WERE priveleged to welcome the keyboard warrior and his troops to Chestnut Avenue as the opposition braved a visit to what the warrior describes so lovingly as the 'not so lovely Northwood Town'. It is a shame our ground isnt fit for the queen but perhaps we havent got influence in areas where the spoonfed one might have. The warrior annually complains to the league and other clubs about our facilities but the captain amazingly decided to bat on what surely would be a minefield. Or perhaps not. We thinks he is scared of a cricket ball.

Indeed in his last match report he claimed our pitch is 'awful' as a 'fact'. Wonder what his excuses were when we stuffed them at their place last year (ah yes I remember, it was his youth team that were playing). As expected the brave little warrior said little about anything when actually here. Town started well enough as Dave Bushnell (2-45) continued his good form with two early wickets. However, the visiting batsmen knuckled down to produce third and fourth wicket partnerships of 76 and 64 runs respectively. At 158-4 Northchurch looked in a strong position but Town fought back well and snared the next three wickets for just three runs. Young spinner Veer Vagdama in particular showed some excellent potential as he claimed 4-75 off 16 overs whilst Johanes Van Ee claimed 2-31 as the visitors closed their innings on 209-9.

In reply, Town got off to a disastarous start losing their first wicket with just one on the board. Whilst the hosts fought back there was once again a continued element of uncertainty as Town awaited the now consistent eye-raising decisions. Rohan Lee (26) was surprisingly given lbw and although Raj Ahluwalia (27) and Michael Lister (31) played some expansive shots in a 53 partnership, the inevitable demise was not far off. A magical moment for the warrior was when he took a skier off Jim Cotton. He squealed with such delight, a more feminine moment you will fail to see at any other cricket ground. His disciples ran to join him and congratulate him on justifying his place for another year. Northchuch finally claimed the final wicket as the rain began to tumble down with Town dismissed for a mere 132.

Ahluwalia knew it was a bad day for Town's survival hopes:
"At times we played some good cricket but again we didnt have the discipline to see the game through. There is no doubt we need to improve but when you are also fighting other elements then the task is made that much harder"

So as the keyboard warrior drove off to the sunset one wonders if he'll have to face his bleak prospect of visiting Chestnut Avenue again next season. And whether his consistent prejudiced comments will finally be acted upon by the league.
