Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Cockfosters on Sat 05 Sep 2009 at 1.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets
Match report
NORTHWOOD TOWN signed off the 2009 season with a performance that had been all too familiar and ultimately led to their relegation. Raj Ahluwalia, in his final game as skipper following a long and successful 7 year stint, lost the toss and was asked to bat by a Cockfosters side who still had a chance of promotion. Town started well enough with Akshay Loomba and Brendan Heaney batting sensibly against the new ball on a pitch which offered pace and bounce for the bowlers. Heaney was on the end of a very questionable leg before decision by the umpire, something which became a worryingly regular occurrence during the afternoon. Both Ahluwalia and Town's talismanic batsman Rohan Lee were also to fall victim of some dodgy decisions as Town looked in trouble. Mike Lister stuck around in the middle order as helped Town pushed towards 3 figures but none of the batsmen were able to support him and when he fell, the tail offered little and Town fell to a poor 121 all out.
In reply, Richard Doling produced a lively new ball spell and was unlucky to only pick up the one wicket. Cockfosters were comfortable with the chase though Veer Vadgama bowled well to pick up another couple at the end. However, it was a performance that summed up the season and Town will pick up next season back in division 3 after a four year stint at their highest level.
