Old Cholmeleians v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 11 Jul 2009 at 1.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 8 wickets

Match report NORTHWOOD TOWN'S 2nd X1 suffered their fourth defeat on the spin as they travelled to high flying Old Cholmeleians with just 9 available players. The heavy defeat in which Town picked us just 2 points, leaves them second bottom in the table and facing a real struggle to maintain their division 7 status.

Adam Hills won the toss and elected to bat on a green but firm wicket. With the rain starting to drizzle, the early stages of the game saw the play stop-start but Town got off to a disasterous start. Town's dangerman Phil Carter was snared with a decent yorker for 0 off the fourth ball of the innings and stand in opener Neal Furmenger was caught at backpoint. Richard Robbins was next to go as he edged to second slip who parried to the keeper and Town effectively found themselves 7 for 5.

Skipper Hills (13) and the returning Alan Armitage provided some resistance and shared 46 for the fourth wicket and Shaun O'Neill join Armitage following Hills' dismissal and the pair looked well set as they guided Town towards three figures. O'Neill was unlucky to be caught out at first slip for 21 and the young Town tail were unable to offer Armitage much support as he finished stranded on 60 not out.

In reply Town got off to a blistering start as Shaun O'Neill struck twice in the first over - bowling out the Old Cholms top order for 0. But it was to be a brief moment of glory as home skipper Sanderson soon began to take the wayward Town attack apart. With the rain starting to fall heavily, Town found it hard to bowl but with just 9 men and so few runs, it was just a matter of time before the Old Cholms got home for the loss of the just the two early wickets.

Adam Hills commented after the game:
"We were on a hiding to nothing from the word go. I want to thank the other 8 guys who played today and gave their all. We were simply not good enough. I had guys today who are playing through injuries and youngsters who are still adjusting to this level of cricket. It is not fair on them to expect them to keep us in this division. Last week at Boxmoor, we had a very strong and decent side. This week we had 9. It is ridiculous! We need some inspiration and a repsonse from somewhere."
