Match report NORTHWOOD TOWN suffered an eight wicket reverse against Welwyn Garden City as they suffered a horrendous batting collapse to virtually gift the visitors victory. Town lost the toss and were asked to bat with Welwyn well aware that victory was vital for their survival hopes. Town started cautiously but Dave Bushnell (25) once again looked solid in his new opening role as the hosts scratched around for their runs. Town's prospects were not helped when both Raj and Gurpal Ahluwalia were called away for urgent family reasons but this could not excuse the collapse which saw the hosts fall from 70-2 to 84-7. Richard Doling (29) desperately tried to keep the innings together but it was only Craig Newman (24) who gave any sort of support as Town fell to 116. In reply, Welwyn took a patient approach to ensure victory and whilst Johanes Van EE and Bushnell took a wicket apiece, Welwyn strolled home for the loss of just two wickets.
Ahluwalia commented: "It was a poor day all round and one we have to effectively write off. Hopefully we can regroup and be back to ourselves next week."
