Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 4th XI v Eastcote 5th XI on Sat 07 Jul 2012 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 126 runs
Match report
The Town, through a surplus of players being available, were able to field a 4th XI for the first time since 1980 which is indication of the flourishing position of the club at the present time. Following great efforts by Prakash Tailor a friendly game was arranged against neighbours Eastcote who elected to bat on a grey overcast day. Faced with a team that fielded players that had represented their 2nds through to the 5th XI the Town from the quality of Eastcote's opening batsman knew that they were up against a good standard of opposition.
It was to the Town's credit that both Mo Abbasi and Taz Katrira were able to keep the batsman relatively quiet with Taz in particular bowling an outstanding spell which with luck on another day would have resulted in him taking 3-4 wickets. With Dave "the legend" Harding and Jas Sagoo both taking 2 wickets amongst some outstanding fielding and catching displays - which included a brilliant catch by JB - Eastcote after 23 overs were on 93 for 6 and the Town were over performing against a standard of batsman that would have provided NTCC's 2nd's and 3rd's with a fair game.
Skipper Dave Harding then in the spirit of the game introduced the NTCC 4th XI spin attack of JB, Hersh Shah and Nic Patel and unfortunately whilst all 3 bowled some good balls the bad balls were severely punished by the Eastcote batsman who proceeded to accelerate the run rate until the master -stroke of introducing Jack Daly paid dividends for the Town. Having not played for near 2 years because of a series of injuries that would make Ben Rawson Jones wince with pain - young Jack produced an inspired spell of medium paced bowling which rewarded him with 4 wickets and Eastcote were all out for 185.
Facing a daunting task the Town faced an uphill battle against the Eastcote attack consisting of young bowlers who bowled well and the batsman were not able to make great headway. JB was introduced to the friendly spirit of the game with a bouncer - no easy task on the astroturf wicket - by Eastcote's Jefferie. The Town batsman through poor shot selection which was understandable when reflecting on the lack of match practice by some of the players rewarded Eastcote with some easy wickets and the innings eventually closed at 59 all out with Mr Extras being the main contributor to the score!!
On summing up after the game - stand in skipper Dave Harding was able to reflect on an outstanding afternoon by the team which consisted of several players who had played little or no cricket in 2012. The team especially in the bowling and fielding display gave an outstanding account of themselves with Neil Cheesewright in his advancing years performing excellently behind the timbers. The game from start to finish was played in a great spirit with all throughly enjoying the game which has culminated in all the players confirming availibility to (subject to overall club availibility) continue 4th XI team duties this forthcoming weekend.
