Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Hertingfordbury on Sat 11 May 2013 at 1 pm
Match was Drawn
Match report
It was another difficult day for Northwood Town in a rain interrupted match against Hertingfordbury which ultimately ended up in a draw. Having started well, restricting Hertingfordbury to 7 for 2 off 8 overs, things soon changed once Hertingfordbury's new overseas batsman, Warwick Laing, came to the crease, thoroughly dominating the Town attack for an emphatic 111. He was supported by the opposition captain Neil Darby who scored a patient 97 not out.
In reply, an excellent 63 from in form vice-captain Akshay Loomba (3x6, 5x4) gave Town hope, but a number of poor shots from Town's batsman as well as several rain breaks meant the game slipped away from Town and a victory for Hertingfordbury looked firmly on the cards. However, dogged resistance from Mikhil Patel and Nishil Mapara and a further torrent of rain meant the game finished in a draw.
Skipper Michael Lister reflected on the performance: "the team continue to work hard for each other in the field but the same application and teamwork needs to be shown in our batting. We must look to build partnerships and not give our wickets away cheaply. Also the number of four-balls being bowled will need to be dramatically reduced if we are going to start accumulating points over the next few weeks. It will be an important game against Ware next weekend and we need to get things going".
