Match report Northwood Town put in another good performance and took 18 bonus points in a draw with Bishop's Stortford II. The game ended in nail-biting fashion as Town achieved a last ball run out which prevented Bishop's Stortford from stealing victory at the death.

Winning the toss and batting first, Akshay Loomba (23) creamed the first ball of the game through cover for 4 to set the tone for another excellent batting display from Town. After Loomba had made a start and got out, Raj Ahluwalia took control and played a committed and sensible innings of 65 from 110 balls to guide Town to a competitive total. It was Ahluwalia's partnership of 64 with captain Michael Lister (36) which swung the game in Town's favour as the pair rotated the strike to good effect and dominated the opposition's spin attack with a succession of boundaries. Once they departed, Mikhil Patel (28 from 20 balls) and Richard Doling (16 from 17 balls) continued the good work with quick-scoring cameos and Town could be pleased with a total of 208 for 9 from 53 overs.

In reply, Bishop's Stortford had a wealth of batting to call upon and despite all of Town's bowlers chipping in with wickets, Town's fielding was more sloppy than in recent weeks and this allowed Bishop's Stortford to maintain momentum throughout the chase. With tension mounting on the field, a thrilling finish ensued and whilst Mikhil Patel (3 for 60) bowled well under pressure, a succession of fielding mistakes meant that 11 runs were scored off the final over and Town only managed to avoid defeat when Nishil Mapara and Mikhil Patel combined for a run out on the final ball of the game.

Although pleased with the batting display, Town will be looking to take the lessons from this game and maintain greater composure in the field over the next few weeks in order to better support the bowlers and hopefully clinch more victories.
