Wheathampstead III v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 18 May 2013 at 1 pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 8 wickets
Match report
Town arrived at Wheathampstead looking to continue their excellent early season form. After winning the toss and opting to bat, Towns openers began solidly but lost Firfire on 30. Graham and Harding continued to play well but after Harding departed for a well played 20, a collapse ensued and Town found themselves on 62 for 5.
Taz Katira and vice Tailor briefly rebuilt the innings but a catastrophic run out led to another mini collapse with Town on 83 for 8. Katira and Bentvelzen then rebuilt the innings again ensuring that town batted as many overs as possible. Katira's dismissal for a valiant 28 brought his brother Meeth to the crease. After a few brief fireworks from the last pair, town finally succumbed to 120 all out.
In the field Town began brilliantly, with Parmar taking the opposition skipper in the first over. Some good fielding piled the pressure on the home team and eventually Meeth Katira continued his good work for the day with another wicket, leaving Wheathampstead on 30 for 2.
Sadly for Town, this resistance shown by the Wheathampstead batsmen increased and rebuilding turned to fluent scoring. Despite numerous changes in the attack and field and an excellent effort from the Town bowlers, Wheathampstead cruised home just after the 25 over mark. Man of the match Evans finished on 78 not out.
