Match report Northwood Town's 1s suffered a heavy defeat against Hatfield Hyde as Hatfield's Aussie overseas player Mitchell Futcher (67 off 35 balls and 3-14 off 7 overs) delivered an exceptional match winning performance.

Town lost the toss and were asked to field on a rare dry Saturday, and with the Hatfield pitch looking in decent shape despite the recent weather. It was a cagey first 15 overs with Lawrence and Daly bowling tight lines with the new ball and Carr and Winchester being restricted by some excellent ground fielding. Dom Whyley and Mikhil Patel (3-59) continued the good work and were unlucky not to pick up more wickets before drinks, although a good catch by Malik off Patel had got Town off and running and an energised fielding performance was looking like keeping Hatfield to a score of around 160. However, the arrival of Futcher changed the game dramatically. Comfortably the best batsman in the Hatfield side, he took the Town bowlers to task with some huge hitting in the final 10 overs, including 32 runs off the last two overs to take Hatfield to 204.

In reply, Town struggled from the start with Mitchell Johnson/Futcher dominating from one end with some lively left arm pace, and picking up 3 of Town's top 5 before the score had past 20. At this point the game was up and Hatfield coasted to victory, with Town eventually all out for 64.

Skipper, Michael Lister was disappointed with the defeat but looked to take the positives, "Our bowling and fielding performance was excellent for 45 overs today and we were unlucky not to pick up a few more wickets. Nobody could fault the effort of the players and I'm proud of how everyone stuck to the task, but we're building a new side and that takes time. This experience in Division 3 is going to help all the players develop their games so we just have to stay positive and work hard for that first win."
