Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Chipperfield Clarendon on Sat 26 Jul 2014 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 18 runs

Match report Northwood Town record their first league victory of the season.

Stand in captain Akshay Loomba won the toss on an incredibly hot day and elected to bat. The fall of a couple of early wickets on a track that was seaming early on put Northwood Town on the back foot and looking towards another early finish at 31-4. Aiden (35) and Raj Kotecha (39) put their head down and looked towards rebuilding a partnership to get Town back on track. Finishing off, Mikhil (31) and Vadgama (41) batted beautifully with the latter ensuring Town coast pass that 200 mark to achieve maximum batting points and putting us firmly in the driver’s seat at Lunch.

After the request of starting with the old ball turned down by the opposition captain, Town still decided to start with spin from one end and Krunal kept it tight and Kyle bowled with real pace from the other end to take a couple of early wickets. Although a few worrying partnerships built throughout the innings, a regular bowler rotation policy was used to break these partnerships including a great spell of bowling by Mikhil to swing the momentum back in Towns favour.

With Chipperfield 6 down and looking to take the game away from Town, the introduction of Kotecha with a 2 over/2 wicket stint set the game up perfectly: 25 runs to win, 4 overs, 2 wickets with Kyle and Veer bowling at the death.

The penultimate over arrived with the game look towards a draw before Veer decided he had other plans taking 2 wickets to send the the crowd into a roar and being bundled in the middle of the pitch due to pure ecstacy.

Stand in captain Akshay spoke after the game: ‘Batting 53 overs and scoring 200 was the key today to put the pressure on chipperfield. The boys knew this season hasn’t been up to standard and today was the opportunity to show what they are capable of and they didn’t disappoint. It was a clinical performance all round and I couldn’t fault the efforts of anyone that played in todays team. We go again at Southgate Adelaide next week which will be a key match against another team fighting to save relegation.’
