Hatch End v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 03 May 2014 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 47 runs

Match report A great all round performance from the 2’s get’s the 2014 season off to a perfect start.

Losing the toss, town where invited to bat first on a very green wicket. Scoring was difficult in the early stages of the match with the ball swinging, juddering and in some instance keeping to an almost unplayable low height.

Early wickets fell without troubling the score, all of town’s own doing. The run total was almost on par with the overs total and after 25 overs, a score of anything over 120 almost seemed a competitive target.

It was the introduction of Pradip Pandey that really steadied the town ship. With a well thought out and constructed innings of 22 he was part of 2 crucial middle order partnerships. First with newcomer Fozan Haji (37 partnership, 25 scored) and then with skipper Neil Cheesewright (39 Partnership, 28 scored). The score was now moving on at a pace, with the tide turning and the pressure now on the Hatch End bowlers.

With a flurry of runs from Geet Patel (19) towards the end of the innings, Town were eventually dismissed for 127 off 50.1 overs.

With the skippers teatime team talk ringing in their ears, Town entered the field with a certain buoyancy.

Opening bowlers Manek and Parmar, dominated the Hatch End attack, stifling any opportunities to make inroads into the target score. But it was a superb run out that set the wickets tumbling. A dart of a throw from Manek and some smart glove work from Haji dismissed the Hatch End opener Richardson.

Wickets then fell at regular intervals. In an innings that was soon falling apart, Town kept up the pressure. With tight bowling, enthusiastic fielding and plenty of the usual encouragement, the Hatch End was nigh.

Manek was unlucky to end up on just 2 wickets for his efforts. The superb Parmar bagging 4 wickets and the introduction of the evergreen ‘Mr Cricket’ Krunal Patel at the end, claiming 3 quick wickets wrapped up the Hatch End innings and a total of 80.

Job done, the perfect start to the season.

Town skipper Neil Cheesewright “The all round effort, application and intensity levels today were superb, with every team member making a contribution. Even with runs hard to come by, the focus was always maintained and to post such a score on that deck was satisfying. Our bowlers stuck to their plans and showed great discipline, even after facing a late rally from the Hatch End tail. Well done one and all, you have made a 2’s skipper very happy and proud.”
