Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Rickmansworth IV on Sat 31 May 2014 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
Finally NTCC 3rd XI managed to play at home after recent poor weather.
With regular skipper Sumeet going on a handbag shopping spree with Minesh to understand why he hasn't been playing on Saturdays it was left to man known as Praxy to lead the 3's against a top of the table team Rickmansworth 4th XI.
The day started with town losing the toss and being put into field first. Misty and Ahmed were given the new ball and they bowled a tight line and length to stop the batsman from playing any shots through a well placed, high energy and vocal field. Anything the batsmen did manage to hit went straight to a fielder. The run rate was 1 an over and pressure was building. The pressure eventually got so much that batsmen were forced into trying to hit over fielders, Ahmed and Mitsy were rewarded with wickets with some brilliant catches from Rajul, Samir and Shailendra. What followed after that was a period keeper/captain will want to forget, 3 dropped catches behind the stumps, 2 missed stumping opportunities and one where the batsman hit the ball onto top of the leg stump, for Praxy to then catch it whilst diving (well it was a belly flop) and the ball popping out of the gloves on impact with the ground, the bails didn't come of the stumps so the batsman survived what seems like an impossible set of events. The game continued with umpires, batsmen and fielders ribbing the keeper for not being able to catch a cold. The batsmen couldn't do anything so the bowlers were kept on. With the run rate so slow a batsman asked the ultimate question are we 33 runs of 30 overs or 30 runs of 33 overs?! R. Comas went after town bowlers managing to hit Mitsy for 2 huge 6s, Town applauded the batsman and Mitsy even gave him a hug after one of the monster strikes, it's unheard of anyone hitting him for a 6. Rickmansworth 4th XI ended on 76 all out. Mitsy and Ahmed both ending on jug avoiding 4 wickets.
After a lovely tea made by a Sumeet prior to the handbag shopping expedition town batsmen were ready to chase the runs down quickly. Shailendra (38, 7 x 4s) and Pradip opened up the batting. Neither was troubled by the bowling and got town of to a fast start. Pradip playing the supporting role managed the slightest of nicks to be caught behind. Enter the monster hitter Bimal (35, 4 x 4s, 3 x 6s). What followed next on the wicket is hard to explain. Both batsmen fresh from watching IPL only wanted to hit boundaries and at times decided to run a single to stop and return to their crease so they could go for boundaries. Town batsmen watching on in hysterics had to cheer on the batsmen to run. Bimal hit 3 massive 6s and both batsmen then decided they wanted to end the game with a 6 to give town something to end on a high. Unfortunately the last ball struck was mistimed and hit for beautiful 4. Great knock from both batsmen chasing down 76 runs in only 13.3 overs.
Man of the match - if it could be given to team I would... so I will! Today was a great team effort and everyone played their role perfectly! Well done lads.
Town back to winning ways and Sumeet and Minesh may struggle to return back to the team after a successful handbag shopping spree.
