Watford Town III v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 30 Aug 2014 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 12 runs
Match report
Town took the field for the final league game of the season knowing only a win would suffice against a Watford side already crowned champions.
Having lost the toss, Town were sent in to field. After a tight early start, runs began to flow for Watford until Vadgama broke the opening stand. After that Parmar began to chip away at the top order and a promising start faltered. Khetia and Meeth Katira polished off the middle order and tail as Town backed their bowlers with some outstanding fielding.
In response, Watford bowled and fielded like champions and demolished the Town batting line up. Although there was some staunch resistance from the formidable Pandey and ever reliable Vadgama, Town eventually crumbled just 12 runs short of their target and with it their promotion hopes.
Khetia was understandably disappointed at the end, but reserved plenty of praise for his players.
"All credit to Watford, thoroughly deserve to win the division this year. But a few words about us. Throughout the season, these lads and everyone who has played in the 3s has shown tremendous character and heart. There have been some amazing moments and some great laughs along the way too. We're obviously gutted that it proved half a step too far, but to be challenging for promotion a 3rd season in a row is a brilliant achievement in itself. We'll be back next year, stronger and better than ever!"
