Pinner v Northwood Town Cricket Club Sunday XI on Sun 25 May 2014 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 28 runs

Match report Northwood Town made the short journey down the road to play local rivals Pinner in a game that just about made it after heavy rain the previous day. Before things got underway, Town joined Pinner in a walk around the boundary all in the name of charity. There was no charity on the pitch however as Town lost the toss and were asked to bat first in the hardest of the conditions with things still damp and the ball occasionally stoping in the pitch. Openers Loomba and Patel started well both playing some nice attacking strokes before falling. In at number three came Veer Vadgama (62 n.o.) who settled in instantly and calmly went about building his innings. At the other end Lister was unfortunate to be given out to a somewhat dubious catch, which brought to the crease Burt who carried on where he left off last week putting together an excellent partnership of 87 with Vadgama. When Burt departed Town were in a strong position and some late hitting from Patel and Ghaffar boosted the total up to a healthy 189. After a nice tea Town took to the field but skipper J.B. was then surprised to discover a huge puddle at one end limiting his mode of attack. With plan A instantly out of the window Abdul Firfire opened the bowling with his spin and after an initial surge from Pinner's openers got his rewards with the first wicket. For his second you can forget about moonball as Firfire reached for the stars to deceive the batsman in orbit and bowl him out. Bowling well from the other end was Jack Daly who had found a nice rhythm and with the leg spin of J.B. introduced put the clamps on Pinner's progress with a wicket apiece and the superb arm of Daly, not only once but twice running in from deep cover, picked up the ball and threw brilliantly for direct hits, running out two batsmen. Krunal Patel and Harshil Palan entered the attack and bowled well, and despite Pinner trying their best to keep scoring and stay in the game, they together were too much for them as Town applied the pressure and K.P took the remaining wickets. Quite a few players today held their hands up as contenders but my man of the match is Veer Vadgama, who's superb wicket keeping and exemplary not out innings was a fine display of discipline, correct shots, patience and above all a lot of class, which allowed Town to build a solid total which was enough for victory. Today was a big win and even though Town weren't at their fluent best in the field and had to over come a few challenges, they stuck to their task well and in the end allowed their quality to prevail. With their third win in a row now, the lads deserve a lot of credit.
