Cheshunt v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 01 Aug 2015 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 18 runs

Match report Northwood Town's 1s picked up another win after an excellent bowling performance away to Cheshunt.

Losing the toss, Town were inserted on a difficult wicket and from the off Town's batsmen struggled to settle as the ball seamed around with the odd one shooting through low. Whilst none of the Town batsmen truly got to grips with the Cheshunt attack or the wicket, starts from Loomba (23), Mekwan (30) and Lawrence (21) helped push Town past 100 to make a game of it. An important 16 from 47 balls from Krunal Patel at number 9 held the innings together after a number of middle order wickets fell in quick succession and that allowed Town to post 139 - competitive in the circumstances.

Taking the field, Town knew they would have to bowl and field brilliantly, and hit the right areas to get the most out of the wicket. Town made a great start when Lawrence and keeper Loomba combined to dismiss the opener Richardson and when skipper Michael Lister bowled his opposite number Sam Stephenson for 18, Town sensed an opportunity to get through Cheshunt's fragile batting line up. Worboys and Grant then knuckled down to the task and Town had to be patient in the field as the wickets dried up and Cheshunt crept towards the total.

Krunal Patel (9 overs 1 for 15) bowled a superb spell of probing off-spin to keep the pressure on the batting side but it was the re-emergence of openers Lawrence (12 overs, 5 for 38) and Chan Silva (12 overs, 2 for 28) that turned the game on its head. Lawrence tore through the Cheshunt middle order in an aggressive second spell, showing the hunger and desire that Town's skipper had been asking for at the drinks break. With victory in sight, the in-form Chan Silva duly delivered with two vital wickets to mop up the tail. With Cheshunt visibly frustrated at the result, Town could reflect on a job well done, fully deserving the win and the 30 points which gives the 1s a sniff of hope in the relegation dog-fight.

Northwood Town host Southgate Adelaide at Chestnut Avenue on 8 August in another must-win game for the Town.
