Match report Northwood Town kept alive their hopes of avoiding relegation with a hard earned win away at Rickmansworth.

Having won the toss, it was an easy decision to bowl first on a damp surface and Kyle Lawrence (3-35) and Veer Vadgama (2-9) set to work straight away, removing four of the top order with only 23 runs on the board. Chan Silva (2-19) joined in, taking the key wicket of Shehabi with his first delivery. Krunal Patel (1-9) tied things down superbly at one end whilst wickets tumbled at the other, and only a 26 partnership from Phillipson and Shah enabled Rickmansworth to sneak into three figures, before an excellent run out and a third wicket for a fired up Lawrence brought the innings to a close on 103.

With more confidence in the batting line up and on a better wicket, the chase would have been a formality, but Town's struggles looked set to continue after losing the key wickets of Mekwan and Lawrence in the first few overs. Akshay Loomba (11) and skipper Michael Lister (37) began to resurrect the innings with a gritty 26 partnership but then three middle-order wickets fell for just one run and the win began to look out of reach for Town. However, with relegation ensured if Town failed to win, Veer Vadgama (16*) joined Lister and the pair knuckled down, as the occasion and conditions demanded, to produce a match-winning 39 partnership, sealing 30 points and taking Town's bid to escape relegation into the final week of the season.
