Bessborough Barbarians v Northwood Town Cricket Club Midweek on Thu 18 Jun 2015 at 6:00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 50 runs
Match report
Town took the field with a crafty plan to spin their way to victory early on. 3 overs in, the plan had clearly not worked and Bessborough were flying - the normally impeccable lines of Burt taking particular punishment.
It was the stand in skipper who finally made a breakthrough, with a slower than normal ball not only going straight, but foxing the opener too. With a second following in quick time, Khetia had embarrassed his bowlers into action as Town began to claw themselves back into the game.
Excellent spells from Daly and Krunal Patel kept Town going, but some brutal hitting saw man of the match Modha hit a fantastic century. It was only captain marvel returning at the end who managed to send his leg stump cartwheeling backwards...
In response the Town openers strode out with attitude reminiscent of the Legion of Doom. Rizvi in particular looked the part with some savage shots wreaking havoc.
With Town motoring ahead of the game cue the inevitable, traditional if you will, batting collapse. The spinners came, the batsmen heaved, the balls went up and the fielders took catches.
Credit though to the Town tail and the never say die attitude. A cracking last wicket partnership between Maulin Patel and Town's player of the day Jack Daly saw the overs played out with some flair.
A great game with Bessborough deservedly coming out on top.
