Match report Northwood Town Sunday XI opened their league campaign at home to Crouch End on a mild and slightly cloudy day. Having lost the toss, Town were bowling first and found it hard to make an early breakthrough although the runs were kept down with a good opening spell from Daly and Malik. Krunal Patel came on and changed all that with a very effort which saw him pick up 5 wickets, with some good catching from Geet Patel. However he could and should have had more. Several catches were put down including that on numerous occasions of the man who made 104* for them. We eventually were able to bowl out Crouch End but not before they scored a lot more runs then they should have been allowed to due to our drops. After tea it was a different story for our batsmen as every catch that came Crouch End's way stuck, leaving us 14-4 at one stage. The pitch was getting worse and batting difficult and further wickets fell despite some good batting from Mekwan to get a half century. In the end we ran out of wickets as batting became impossible and there went the game. This was a game which we gave away in every sense, a thoroughly disappointing day as it was an easy opportunity to get a win but we blew it. Catches win matches, we need to take more if we're to stop losing games in this fashion!
