Watford Town II v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 04 Jun 2016 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 55 runs

Match report Northwood Town 1s recorded a comfortable win by 55 runs against Watford Town II after a solid batting display.

Winning the toss for the first time this season, Town opted to bat and after the early dismissal of Mekwan, Akshay Loomba (18) and Kyle Lawrence(24) set about building the innings with positive intent, rotating the strike well. At 58-3 off 18 overs, it had been an even first hour. An important 52 partnership between Michael Lister (59) and Mikhil Patel (27) moved the Town innings along. When Patel was dismissed, Andy Burt (31) joined the skipper and another well engineered 50 partnership moved Town towards 165 and what must have been a par score on a very interesting wicket. With the foundations laid, and Watford's overseas leg-spinner seen off, the lower middle order worked hard to move Town into a really dominant position; Cotton, Kotecha, Silva and Krunal Patel all pushing the score along and running hard between the wickets to get Town up to 231 for 8 off their 50 overs.

In reply, Watford Town's batting was as over-exuberant as their appealing in the field, swinging from the hip from ball one and chances flying everywhere. In a rare off day for Town's fielders, a number of half-chances (and a few simple ones) were put down, to the frustration of the opening bowlers - in particular Kyle Lawrence. Lawrence and Veer Vadgama (3 for 41) continued to hit the right areas and were unlucky not to have wrapped up the Watford Town innings by drinks. As it happened, Watford Town were well on course at drinks, as their all or nothing approach was appearing to pay off. Town refocused at the break and the pressure imposed from Chan Silva's unplayable maiden over straight after drinks helped Mikhil Patel to a double-wicket maiden in the next and Town were back on top and into the tail. Whilst catches still wouldn't quite go to hand, Northwood Town ground out the win with spinners Krunal Patel (2 for 17) and Mikhil Patel (3 for 17) too good for the opposition on a pitch that was doing a bit.

The win by 55 runs was well deserved, despite it not being a vintage day for Town in the field, and crucially 30 points were in the bag.

Town's 1s will look to make it 3 wins in a row against North Mymms in next Saturday's home fixture. And with Marjorie Pimm on teas, a good turn out is expected at NTCC.
