Reed III v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 14 May 2016 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 2 wickets

Match report After a long old drive, Town finally arrived to the 'Road of Reed'.

Having been put into bat, Town's openers made a really brisk start and despite the early loss of Kunal Patel, looked to press on. With a lightning fast outfield and only 10 fielders, Town were off and running.

After Ramawat departed, Haji and Vanker began to dominate until Haji was crushingly run out off a dropped caught and bowled effort! The traditional Town stutter ensued though as Palan was runout and Maulin Patel done by a jaffer.

As Khetia arrived at the crease, one could have been forgiven for thinking a collapse was on the cards. Instead some excellent strokes (shockingly from Khetia too), saw a partnership of 81 and Town amass 274 for 6 off their overs.

After some delectable cakes at Tea, Town took the field with confidence exuding. Unfortunately, Reed had other ideas.

Willoughby was dominant from the off, Schwarzenegger-esque with some brutal hitting. His rather meeker twin Hughes, played an important (if De Vito style), role. Though some of the stroke play was less than convincing, the pair made a mockery of Town's fielding with some excellent running between the wickets.

When Hughes finally departed for a feisty 39, Town were deep in trouble with over 100 on the board. Although Baker swiftly departed, Garrett was ready to make his mark on the game.

Although Willoughby departed soon after, Garrett carried on the Reed onslaught. Although he had more than a slice of luck, particularly against Kotecha, he sent the ball to all parts.

With Reid in cruise control, suddenly it was their turn to implode. With Skipper Robertson baffled by the infamous Khetia 'Straight one' it was time for the runouts.

Vanker and Khetia snared 2 with some good work close in and Maulin Patel showed great composure to bag a third - Suddenly the Reed bench was quiet.

Runs completely dried up, but just as soon as the tension had built up, it was released by Graves striking a lusty blow over midwicket for the win.

Khetia was unimpressed after the game - "We did so well to put get our batting back on song today, especially from Mo, great knock. Credit to Reed though, outfought us when it mattered with 10 men. Poor from us, especially after we set the game up so well. On to next week we go."
