Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v St Albans III on Sat 04 Jun 2016 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 30 runs

Match report Town welcomed St Albans III on the back of 4 straight defeats.

Having lost the toss, Town were sent into bat. After the early loss of Patel, Haji and Ramawat settled into a good rhythm and made a pitch with some serious bite in it look quite playable.

At drinks the game seemed to be going well for Town, on 89 for 1 after 26 overs. Shortly after though, the visitors made a quick double breakthrough, removing Ramawat and Vanker.

Shah and Haji continued to score well, but ultimately, a stuttering middle order failed again, Khetia summing up the story with arguably the worst 3 ball duck of all time!

As ever though, Town balanced the ridiculous with the sublime in equal proportion. At 45.3 overs in, Malik came to the crease and what followed was sight to behold. With Haji dug in like an Alabama tick, Malik went ballistic. Some incredible shots, some incredible running and some atrocious fielding saw the pair amass 48 runs from the remaining 27 balls, Town ending on 192 for 6, Malik on 30 not out and Haji an incredible 88 not out.

In response, Town began with another new opening pair to start the bowling. This time Khetia taking the chance to start up with Malik. And it worked. Some great bowling from the pair - especially Malik - meant the scoring was going at just over 2 an over.

With the Saints batsmen trying their hardest to accelerate, it was eventually Khetia who picked up the first wicket in the 20th over. With Parmar and Syed coming on, the visitors looked to accelerate, but it wasn't to be. Wickets fell at both ends and when Syed took a spectacular caught and bowled off a rocket drive, it looked like victory was on the cards.

Typically though, things are never that straightforward at NTCC. A great riposte from the St Albans tail some saw quick runs added for the 9th wicket partnership. Parmar eventually drew the mistake from though, Khetia taking the simplest.

Credit to Little though, he was a man on a mission, clattering the ball to all parts. It wasn't to be though, as Vanker brilliantly ran him out in the 48th over and the 2s picked up their first win of the season.

Khetia was understandably delighted after the game - "What a performance from the lads. We had to take a hard look at ourselves after recent games and today we put all the pieces together. Finally a win!!"
