Pirton v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 02 Jul 2016 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 82 runs

Match report Town visited one of the league big guns on the back of some poor form. Having won the toss, Khetia elected to bat, as ever misjudging a 'road' of a track.

Before the match began though, both sides lined up for a 1 minute silence to honour the late Martin Bird, a great man without whom Northwood Town CC would surely no longer exist. Rest in peace, dear Martin, you will forever be in our hearts.

Town started off with a solid opening partnership, carefully negotiating a tricky ten overs, before Mihir Patel was unluckily adjudged lbw. Ramawat and Haji continued well, moving onto 75 for 1 at drinks. With Town set to move on nicely, the customary collapse ensued and Town quickly found themselves on 86 for 5.

Daly and Palan rebuilt though and soon it appeared the momentum had swung in Town's favour. Although Palan (31) departed just before the end, Daly (24*) continued to run well between the wickets and helped Town to 163 for 9 off their 53 overs.

In the interval a rousing speech from the skipper geed up the troops as required - No more Mr Khetia, I have to go the bathroom! Nothing! There IS no bathroom!!

Daly and the luckless Syed carried that fire into the reply, swinging the ball in responsive conditions. Daly soon jagged one through Newman's defence and shortly after had the stubborn Laskowski caught low down by the excellent Palan.

A solid rebuild from Hockley and Andrew looked to have re-established Pirton in the game. Madness ensued though, when a couple of flash dance moves saw Andrew throw away his wicket looking to get after Khetia, pulling the ball straight to man of the moment Palan in the deep.

Having initially had a shaky start, the stroke of luck seemed to breathe some life into Khetia's bowling. Suddenly the skipper looked a new man. Before you could blink, Khetia had run through 4 more batsmen. With Malik and Maulin Patel both picking up cherries at the other end, the home side were suddenly 9 down.

It was the returning Daly though, who rightfully had the final say and cleaned up Perera to give Town the much deserved win.
