Match report Northwood Town 3rd XI earned a tense 10-run victory against local rivals Bushey at Chestnut Avenue.

After losing the toss and being put into bat, Town's openers Ben Rawson-Jones (16) and Jonathan Bentvelzen (12) created a solid foundation with a partnership of 41, before several quick wickets plunged the side to 55-4. In-form Vinodh Balakrishnan then launched a blazing counter attack with a scorching 71, which included seven 4s and three 6s - one of which brought up his half century in flamboyant style.

At the other end, Pradip Pandey (10) played with great wisdom throughout their game changing partnership of 59, rotating the strike well and serving as the perfect foil to the big-hitting Balakrishnan. A quickfire unbeaten knock of 18 from Prakash Tailor helped Northwood Town to 178-7 from their 40 overs.

In reply, Bushey were immediately put on the back foot by Town's new ball pair of Mitesh Parmar (2-22) and Nic Patel (1-39). Bolstered by impressive reaction catches by Balakrishnan and Rawson-Jones, Bushey were soon in turmoil at 79-5.

Aided by good fortune and several missed chances in the field, Bushey's lower order offered enough resistance to bring them back into contention despite two wickets apiece for Rawson-Jones and Katira. Some accurate death bowling from the latter and Parmar, brought back into the attack, kept Town just about ahead - before a stunning direct hit runout from Nic Patel seized victory for the Town by 10 runs with just 8 balls remaining.
