Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI v Frogmore II on Sat 04 Jun 2016 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 8 wickets

Match report NTCC 3XI won the toss on a grey humid day and decided to bat first.

Town got off to a very slow start and lost the wickets of the new openers very quickly. Frogmore’s opening bowlers, bowling stump to stump unsettled the batsmen and when they bowled out their overs the board showed 32 runs of 16 overs with the loss of 3 wickets. From there stand-in skipper P.Tailor turned to praying and hoped things would get better. Unfortunately it didn't, the outfield was too slow and quick singles were not taken (did racking the outfield before the game tire out players?!). Frogmore first change bowlers further took the game away from us with their disciplined bowling (minus the wides and no balls). A 6th Wicket partnership of 55 runs between R. Motiwala and M. Vadgama managed to help Town to paltry 127 runs on the board.

After a delicious tea prepared by Rajul, Town took to the field and despite the low total to defend were upbeat. N. Patel was unlucky not to have a wicket on his first ball, the batsman managed to edge it just high enough over the first slip. Unfortunately the pace of the ball was such that 2 other edges went just over 1st slip. M. Katira back from fixing teeth bowled with great control and was back to his best. He bowled one bad ball and that managed to get our first wicket with a smart catch from V. Balakrishnan, taking over wicket-keeping duties for the game, running all the way to backward point to take it. Frogmore were using the bowlers pace to score runs so M. Vadgama and P. Tailor were introduced. M. Vadgama slowed the run-rate down and was soon rewarded by taking a wicket. A few overs later usual 3s Keeper turn bowler P. Tailor getting in on the act with his first wicket maiden in a few years aided by a smart stumping from stand-in keeper V. Balakrishnan. 3s had no choice but to bring the field in and cut out all the quick singles they were taking. Ultimately Frogmore innings was setup up nicely by J. Modlin and support by A. Albon and were able to chase the total in 33.5 overs.

Stand-in skipper Tailor had mixed feelings about the game “The day started poorly with raking the outfield followed by the team rushing to the pitch to get the game going. It felt like time was against us and energy levels were low, whether it was rushing into the game or raking the outfield - it impacted us. Whilst batting quick singles need to be taken. There are some learning points and these will be taken into the next game. But it was a brilliant effort in the field and by the bowlers. Bring on Boxmoor.”
