Match report Northwood Town 3rd XI lost by 2 wickets on the last ball of a hardly fought match at Chestnut Avenue against league leaders Harpenden 5th XI.

Batting first, an under-strength Town scooped maximum batting points with an impressive 175/7 from their full 42 over allowance. Kingsley Pearson - playing his first match for the club in a decade - top scored with a smart 41, mixing watchful defence with powerful attack. Vinodh Balakrishnan also chipped in with a brisk 33.

Despite a couple of catches being put down, Town stuck to their task well in the field and worked hard in a bid to keep the attacking Harpenden batsmen under control with regular wickets - although wayward lines cost them dear.

Going into the final over, all results were possible with 7 runs or 2 wickets needed for victory. A couple of misfields allowed the visitors to creep through on the very final ball in what was an excellent game of cricket.
