Parkfield & Headstone II v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 16 Jul 2016 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets
Match report
Northwood Town 3s succumbed to a 6-wicket loss against Parkfield & Headstone 2s.
On a bizarre pitch with incredibly short straight boundaries, Town’s total of 189 proved to be miniscule in the context. Stuck into bat by Parkfield, the innings started brightly with skipper Ben Rawson-Jones (28), Maulin Patel (37) and Vinodh Balakrishnan (45) all briskly advancing the total to a domineering 122/3 from 21 overs. Yet none of the top order went on to post a big, match-changing score – a familiar tale.
Disciplined bowling kept Town pegged back and caused the run rate to tumble, although Kingsley Pearson (27) again provided the middle order glue as wickets started to fall regularly on the way to 189/9 from 42 overs.
In reply, Town’s opening attack of Maulin Patel and Meeth Katira started tidily, conceding just 29 from the first 10 overs, with both unlucky not to make deep inroads.
After Pradip Pandey scooped a couple of scalps, Town had a glimmer of hope with the opposition at 90/2. Unfortunately, they then felt the full wrath of Khan, as Parkfield’s number three targeted the short boundaries to merciless effect, smashing seven sixes on his way to a blistering, match-winning 76.
He was only stopped by a pie from Rishi Adatia that was so juicy, Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry could have strolled out to the middle, laid out a picnic in the middle of the wicket and had a few nibbles in the time it took the pie to finally reach the other end. Yet it was effective. Moral of the story – respect the pies.
