Match report In our second Sunday fixture Northwood Towns's Sundays Warriors visited South Hampstead. Due to availability issues our Warriors were constrained to fulfil the fixture with 10 players. Towns’ skipper called wrongly at the toss and we were asked to bowl first on what was to become a batsmen’s day. South Hampstead came out and played their shots from the start, quickly amassing a very dominant score of 285 from 39 overs. Towns’ bowlers all tried their level best but some brilliant batting form the South Hampstead line up in particular Clarkson who stroked his way to 95 before being run out by his own skipper.
In reply Mekwan went about his business in an explosive manner, bludgeoning the home teams bowling attack to all parts. His opening partner Lister got a good ball and was caught behind in the 9th over. Mekwan’s aggression was soon to be his downfall as he departed for 42 runs caught at deep mid-off by a very good catch. Panday and Lawrence rebuilt Northwood Town’s innings with some lovely strokes and some dodgy running. Panday eventually fell for a very well-played 26 against some very good bowling. Lawrence mixed aggression and defence and with the help of Burt, Edgar and Mapara set about rebuilding the innings. Burt and Edgar were undone by some very good leg spin bowling and some fine off-break bowling did for Mapara. Bentvelzen came in and saw out the last over to ensure the Sunday Warriors remained undefeated this season. Town’s skipper Lawrence finished the innings with 76 not out and was very happy with how his team conducted themselves during a tough day in the field and then applied that same spirit into their batting performance.
Next up for the Sunday Warriors is a trip to Knebworth Park in the cup. I hope that members availability will improve as the season goes on as it will benefit the whole club if we can put a side of 11 out and build some momentum for all 3 Saturday teams.
