Knebworth Park v Northwood Town Cricket Club Sunday XI on Sun 29 May 2016 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost 60 Runs

Match report Our Sunday warriors travelled to Knebworth Park to play in the Herts Sunday trophy. Faced with the daunting prospect of playing a full strength Knebworth side, Town were asked to bowl first on a lovely batting wicket in quite fresh conditions. Knebworth flew to 140-1 inside 24 overs with the skipper Lawrence the only one able to claim a wicket until that point. Having seen Knebworth score so many runs so quickly any side would have been downbeat and out of the game already, but not our Sunday warriors. With the introduction of Krunal Patel and his brother Maulin Patel bowling in tandem Northwood Town gained a foothold in the game. Krunal comprehensively bowled Knebworth Park’s number 3 with beautiful piece of off-break bowling. In the very next over some fine fielding did for their overseas and number 4 batsman, Maulin remaining composed and firing his throw directly over the stumps for Mekwan to whip the bails off and send him on his way. Town continued their aggressive approach regularly picking up wickets in what was a fine fielding display. Knebworth were eventually bowled out for 195, in what was one of the most remarkable comebacks many of the team had been a part of.
In reply Mekwan survived a shaky first over then unleashed some simply awesome yet destructive stroke play upon the Knebworth bowling attack. Town raced to 60 for no loss but then Mekwan was given out LBW it was a huge dent in Towns hopes. Knebworth really bowled well after getting Mekwan’s wicket and slowed Northwood Towns innings. Knebworth heaped on the pressure and took 3 more quick wickets. Towns skipper Lawrence was joined by Vadgama and the pair tried to revive the innings. They rotated the strike and frustrated the Knebworth bowling attack edging Town closer to the most unlikely of victories. It wasn’t to be that fabled victory for Town as their batting order collapsed after Vadgama lost his wicket.
Our Sunday warriors can hold their heads high after taking their game to side that sit in the upper echelons of the Herts Cricket League. Northwood Town played scintillating cricket at times surpassing the expectations of all who attended the match. The match was played in the best of spirits and with a real sense of togetherness, I hope that this spirit can carry over to next week where we start our T/20 competition away to Rickmansworth.
