Old Haberdashers II v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 23 Jun 2018 at 1pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 8 wickets
Match report
On a sunny day The Mighty 3s, unfortunately one man light, travelled to Old Haberdashers. Having lost the toss Town were asked to bat first on a pitch that offered encouragement for the bowlers but had well cut outfield which gave value for good shots played. Openers J.B. and Lal got off to a decent start before both fell trying to clear mid off. Mapara (51) came to the crease and played superbly well, hitting his first half century for the club with controlled shots all around the ground giving Town much needed runs. He was supported well by Jones at the other end, who batted solidly, playing some nice strokes in the process. Sadly wickets had fallen regularly throughout with Naqvi pulling a muscle whilst trying to sneak a quick single, meaning it was left to Shaw and Myring who stuck it out for while to see us up to 121. After a nice tea Mapara and Myring took the new ball well and both were rewarded with a wicket each in their spells, Rizvi assisting with a well taken catch. Young debutant Akshar Patel got his first taste of bowling at senior level and did a decent job of it occasionally beating the set batsmen and Khan from the other end was unlucky after creating a few chances. It was hard to control the runs though with ten men and eventually Old Haberdashers achieved their target. It was tough day today but I was happy with the spirit throughout and especially the efforts of our younger players sticking it out against some tough bowling. Let's keep fighting hard.
