Northwood CC v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 20 Apr 2019 at 1:00 PM
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 7 runs.
Match report
Town arrived at Northwood's ground on a lovely Easter Saturday with temperatures set to 25C, perfect for the game of cricket. Town lost the toss and were asked to field first.
New ball was shared between J. Daly and S. Malik and both started really well with Daly getting some real swing and seam and was unlucky to get a breakthrough when a very close lbw shout was turned down. Both kept bowling tight and probing lines and despite Northwood openers patience game, Daly sneaked through the gates to get Town its 1st wicket of the season.
Double bowling change was introduced in the form of N. Mapara and P. Patel but by this time the Northwood No 2 & 3 were set and started to punish anything loose. Northwood raced to 100 in 20 overs and looked set for a big total. Another bowling change introduced A. Naqvi, who broke the partnership by getting Northwood's other opener out caught in gully. Out came Northwood's no 4 with clear intentions and started hitting the loose balls out of the park. To change the game speed, H. Shaw was introduced and straight away forced the No. 4 batsmen into playing false shot which Town couldn't hold on to. Shaw kept on bowling in the right areas and was finally rewarded with the prize wicket with the help of P. Patel who took an excellent catch on the boundary to get rid of the dangerous batsmen. Northwood keept the scoring tempo up and in that process, lost few more wickets and later decided that 232 was enough and declared their innings.
After a lovely tea break, Town openers J.B. and R. Ramawat started the innings. Northwood opening bowlers initially provided the scoring opportunities which Town made full use of and were 50 for 0 by the 10th over. Just when things were looking set, Ramawat got out lbw trying to glance a top spin from Madhavan and JB followed soon making the score 60 for 2 in 13 overs.
By this time, P. Pandey and A. Burt were on the crease and together they both kept on punishing anything loose. On one end, Burty punished anything short with pulls and cuts and Pandey on other end played some beautiful drives. Just when Burty was looking set, he got out caught at point. Sukhi joined Pandey in the middle and together they tried to rebuild the innings and in the process to up the scoring rate, Sukhi got out. This got N. Mapara in the middle, dishing back the same treatment that he got when he was bowling. Mapara took apart Foster in his maiden over by taking him for 18 runs. It was suddenly 64 needed in the last 10 overs and looked doable. Mapara & Pandey were well set to take town home but town lost both of them in quick intervel in pursuit of win.
Despite being a time game, Town were quite clear in their approach and opted to go for the win, in this process they kept loosing wickets at the regular intervel but were always in the game. The game reached to the last over where 8 runs were needed with 1 wicket in hand and unfortunately Town couldn't close the game.
It was a fantastic pre season friendly, played in the right spirit by both teams. It had all the ingredients of a perfect game. Performances from everyone with either ball or bat and a last over finish. Nothing more could have been expected from the season opener.
