Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Wheathampstead II on Sat 10 Aug 2019 at 1:00 PM
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets.

Match report Town won the toss and asked Wheathamstead to bat on a pitch that looked green enough with a bit of dampness due to previous night rain.

New ball was shared by old boys Malik and Pandey who are fast becoming skippers 1st choice opening bowlers and they both obliged by bowling tight lines to the opening batsmen and Pandey was soon rewarded when Syed took a fine diving catch in gully. No 3 started to play his shots when the ball was full and other opener kept defending the ball. At the end of 12 overs, Hampstead were 26/1. Bowling change got Syed and Shah into the attack and Syed got the ball talking straight away and trapped Creswell in front of the wicket. Porter joined Ishaq in the middle and tried to rebuild the innings but Shah was soon into his rhythm and started bowling with venom and soon cleaned-up Hampstead skipper. Syed who was bowling equally well from the other end got a double breakthrough in the next over leaving WHamstead on 80/5 in 30 overs. Ishar, who was still at the crease was driving anything full to the boundaries and started to up the run-rate but was soon cleaned-up by Shah just before he finished his full spell. The remaining tail was cleaned up by Khetia and Malik wrapping WHamstead innings on 120 in 40th over.

Another fine performance by town bowlers to give their batsmen a modest total to chase. A decent tea and town openers were into the middle to chase the target. Town lost their 1st wicket in the 3rd over when skipper Ramawat called for a risky run but only to see Gairola aborting the call in between and Halai got out to a delivery that kicked-off from length and took edge of his bat to be caught in slips in the following over and that was it. Gairola and Anjum ensured there were no more casualties and made sure every single loose delivery was put to the boundary and there were plenty of them. Together they both made full use of loose deliveries and town soon chased their target in the 19th over. A fine 66* from Gairola equally supported by Anjum 45* from the other end.

A brilliant bowling effort earlier in the game followed up by equally solid batting display ensured town won the game without breaking any sweat. We keep moving on the next level.
