Match report Despite heavy rain overnight and in the morning on Saturday Town’s home game against Hatfield & Crusaders went ahead. After winning the toss Loomba didn’t hesitate electing to bowl first on what looked like a tough wicket to bat on with wet outfield.

Hatfield & Crusaders batsmen started very cautiously as expected and quickly found themselves 39/2 in 14 overs after an excellent opening spell from V Vadgama and K Shah both picking up a wicket each. As the sun started shining so did the HC’s no 3 and no 4 batsmen who started punishing Town by putting away any lose deliveries. With combination of bad luck with umpiring decision and sloppy fielding meant HC reaches 178/3 in just 32 overs and a score of 300+ was on the card. K Patel removed dangerous looking H Bond and V Vadgama removed H Tarada who had already smashed is way to 69. With a very tidy spell at the end by K Shah (10-1-35-2) and S Malik Town recovered well and restricted HC to 246 all out.

With small outfield and pitch drying up Town batsmen started with confidence and aggression reaching 40/0 in 7 overs. But soon Town batsmen started getting out trying to keep up with the required run rate and found themselves 73/5 in 20 overs. S Modi (despite being severely ill) and M Patel tried to re build Town’s inning with good partnership but the target was never in sight. K Shah did entertain with some lusty blows towards the end with well-played 25 which included 2 big sixes but Town fell well short of the target ending their inning 166 all out.

K Patel spoke after the game: we clearly failed to take the advantage of very friendly bowling conditions and left ourselves with a big total to chase. Dropped catches and sloppy fielding also didn’t help! But we’re still top of the table and will continue to fight to stay there by improving our performances!
