Match report On what turned out to be a warm and sunny day, the NTCC Sunday Warriors travelled the short distance up the road to our friendly neighbours Northwood CC for the local derby. Having lost the toss Town were asked to bowl first on what looked a dry and flat surface despite some early morning rain. Opening pair Malik and Rudra Shah bowled excellently first up, showing great control and accuracy. It was Malik who made the first breakthrough, bowling the opener with a great display of seam and swing bowling. This however only brought Sargeant (105*) to the crease who along with N.Patel batted very well to give Northwood a solid foundation. Despite this, runs were not flowing quickly. This was due to disciplined bowling, now by farther and son combo Jay and Viral Patel and backed up by some good fielding from everyone. Chances were few and far between though and were tough at best but Viral managed to take a couple of wickets to keep Northwood in check and with tidy bowling from Mobeen especially and Rich and Shaw at the end in the face of batsmen looking to accelerate, the declaration came with a very respectable effort to restrict them to 214 off 46 overs. After the break Town openers Rich and Tushar Shah (66) put on a good partnership for the first wicket with the latter going on to score a very decent knock. Regular wickets did then start to fall with Palan going in the most unfortunate of ways with a tip from the bowlers finger off of a firmly hit drive onto his stumps at the non strikers end having not faced a ball. A partnership was then formed when Viral came to the crease and another when Mobeen joined him, both showing great shot selection and timing to build a respectable score, even if the hope of chasing the win had started to fade. No game would be the same without a late bit of drama, as last wicket pair Malik and J.B. were left to bat out the last couple of overs to ensure a hard earned draw. It was a thoroughly good team effort from all the lads today and if we show the same application every week then we will be a hard team to beat.
