Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 34 runs.

Match report Town traveled to Old Owens to play the penultimate game of the league. Town won the toss and decided to bowl on a surface that looked little damp.

New ball was shared between Malik & Patel and Patel got the breakthrough in his 1st over they both bowled tight lines despite Robinson trying his best to throw his bat at each and everything. OO were 36/1 at the end of the 10th over. Mapara was introduced into the attack and despite some shoulder pain bowled beautifully and was very unlucky to not to get some very close calls. Syed from the other end made full use of the conditions and started weaving his magic and was rewarded with 3 wickets together with Mapara they restricted OO to 106/5 in 26 overs. It was time for spin dua of Madhavan and Anjum and they both got some turn and bounce from the pitch and both bowled well to get couple of wickets each and OO reached 128/8 in 34 overs. Sensing the situation OO no 10 started playing some shots and built a last wicket valuable partnership of 30 runs before Malik broke that partnership to end OO's innings on 164.

Quick break and Town felt good about the score and chase given their batting depth but unfortunately Town lost their skipper Ramawat in the 1st over. Verma walked in at No3 and started playing his natural game and scored some quick runs. OO quickly shifted their bowling strategy to slow bowling and got spinner operating from both ends from 8th over. Both spinners gave no pace what so ever and kept lobbying the ball up, specially Naman, who bowled well according to the conditions & Town lost 4 quick wickets to Naman and were put under the pressure with scorecard 70/5 in 15 overs.

Pandey and Mapara played cautiously and tried to rebuild the innings but after a brief partnership of 21 runs they too fell to some clever spin bowling this time from Gaeton. Town were 112/7 in 21 overs needing further 50 odd runs in 54 deliveries against a track that was difficult to bat on and bowling attach that was slow and spinning. Although Madhavan gave a glimpse but was unlucky to get out caught to a fine diving catch from the keeper. It was too little and too late. Town lost the game by 36 runs.

No doubt it was a difficult track to bat on batsmen only needed some discipline and application which Town batsmen couldn't demonstrate today and resulted in a very rare batting collapse. We take this loss as a lesson and on our chin. One last game to go this season and its all in our hands. We win the next game and we stay top of the table and get the division trophy! I don't think we need anything more then that to keep our focus on and come back to the winning way with a bang next week.
