Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Flitwick III on Sat 01 Aug 2020 at 1:00 pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 160 runs.
Match report
On a hot day, town II XI welcomed Flitwick III XI eager to carry on from last week after the rain washout. Pandey standing-in for Ramawat who was nursing his injury, won the toss and elected to bat given the weather and the playing condition.
Town openers Gairola and Halai started the innings and Gairola wasted no opportunity in case a bad ball was presented and there were one too many. Halai equally matched Gairola in stroke play from the other end. At the end of the 6th over Town were 49/0. Town kept on accelerating after the break and soon Halai got into a zone where he overtook Gairola and started playing freely 360 degrees, cutting, pulling , driving and even glanced anything on pads with complete authority such was total dominance from the Town openers and scorecard didn't looked surprised at the end of the 15th over - 133/0 (Halai 80* & Gairola 45*) Just when Town were looked set for a 300+ score Town lost both openers in the same over. Halai who was looking in ominous form missed out on what could have been a well deserving 100.
In, next two batsmen M. Patel & Sheikh looked to press-on from a very solid foundation but couldn't get going and Town lost both of them cheaply leaving a decent scorecard of 175/4 at the end of the 25th over. Pandey and every reliable Anjum in the middle and Town looked to consolidate, together they added 40 runs in the next 8 overs playing risk-free cricket. The highlight of the partnership was Pandey's singles on the leg side which is a rare site on a cricket field. In order to accelerate, Pandey departed in the 33rd over when the score was 215. Flitwick celebrated in the expectation that they must be into the Town's tail, little did they know what was coming. Janardhan walked into the middle along with his 'Nets Game' and started smashing bowlers all around, Anjum joined the party from the other end and took the Town total to 260/5 in 36th overs. Anjum got out in the next over in pursuit of a score of 300 and walked in 'The Shard' A.K.A. Town's own 'Andre Russel'. What came next was a pure carnage made of 100% pure 'brutal force' with a hint of 'precise timing' from Mapara, scoring 35* of 11 deliveries, propelling Town's total to a mammoth 298/8 in 40 overs.
After a short break, Town took the field and the new ball was shared between Malik and P. Patel both went for a couple of boundaries in their 1st over and soon adjusted their lines and as it has been the case recently, Malik got the 1st breakthrough when he bowled Flitwick's opener through the gate. Patel was also rewarded with a wicket in his 3rd over when he cleaned-up Flitwick's no. 3 leaving scoreline 39/2 at the end of 10 overs. A double bowling change was introduced in the form of Town debutante Madhavan & Mapara from the other end. Madhavan bowled beautifully with flight and precision throughout his spell and Mapara went for a few runs trying to impress the special audience in the balcony. In their full spell, Madhavan took 2 wickets and Mapara got 1. At the end of the 25th over, Flitwick were 113/5 leaving the match all but over as they needed 186 more runs in 15 overs.
Another double bowling change was introduced and this time it was the duo of Anjum & Janardhan both bowled well to a line-up that had little resistance. Janardhan picked couple of wickets before Malik and P. Patel returned to clean the tail and completed the formality. Flitwick finished their innings on 138 all out in the 39th over.
Town won the game by a whopping margin of 160 runs. A win based on a very strong batting efforts special mention to Halai who lit the ground with his scintillating stroke play and later in the innings, Mapara & Janardhan for some clean and crisp power hitting. Town bowling, as always, 'Right on the Money'.
We travel Stevenage next week to march on.
