Redbourn IV v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 3rd XI on Sat 08 Aug 2020 at 1.00pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 4 balls
Match report
On blisteringly warm day the valiant 3s headed to Redbourn for what eventually turned out to be an exciting finish.
NTCC lost the toss and were asked to bat, openers Ajay and Tushar built the platform with an opening partnership of 49 in the first 10 overs. The Redbourn open bowling attack was pacey and despite the dry conditions they managed to move the ball both on and off the pitch with varying degrees of accuracy. Town continued to build the platform and were nicely poised at 133 for 3 after 30 overs to accelerate towards the close. A timely and skillful 25 from Abs supported the middle order push with an unbeaten and explosive 34 from newcomer Sageeran, coupled with some late power hitting from Arav took NTCC over the 200 mark to post a target of 207 for 7 off the 40 overs. A much more balanced batting display and certainly the strategy agreed by all that we should adopt in every match.
The Redbourn openers were kept pegged back with tight line and length bowling from Myring and Rudra, after 10 overs scoring only 36. NTCC continued to apply pressure and a number of lbw and run-out appeals not falling favourably coupled with unusual deep fielding lapses allowed Redbourn to move onto 93 for 1 after 20 overs. Myring removed one of the openers with some delightful guise and length bowling. A bowling change bought on Harry and Kishan. Harry bowled superbly with flight and elevation bagging the wicket of the other Redbourn opener, at the other end Kishan bowled with his trademark pace and accuracy and both bowlers kept the 3s in the game right upto the 40th over when Redbourn snuck over the line to score the winning runs.
On a day when over 400 runs were scored, many positives in the batting and bowling departments to take away to the next fixture. Well done guys, I'm really proud of your performance in the heat and under pressure. Onwards....!!!
