Match report On a warm and sunny day the NTCC Sunday Warriors travelled down the road to the Cavendish Recreation Ground where we played our dear friend and club mate Mihir Patel's family and friends Sunday XI. Skipper J.B. lost the toss and Town were asked to bowl first on what was a flat but dry surface with a quick out field. Opening bowlers Syed and R.Shah, clearly stiff from Saturday, didn't quite hit their usual spots at first as the batsmen played aggressively early on but when they found their rhythm R.Shah took a hard hit return catch off his own bowling to make the first breakthrough. The very next ball he cleaned up the opposition skipper with a superb delivery, what a talent our young bowler is proving to be. Syed then got in on the act with some classy bowling which eventually took the edge and was taken with a sharp one handed catch at slip by Puwar. This brought Mihir Patel to the crease and in great Town spirit we ended up dropping him three times on nought and not many, just to show that we always try to look after our own. Mobeen and Verma were then brought on and both bowled good tight lines, keeping the runs down where they could and beating the edge often. This was all the time being backed up by good fielding from all the team and it was Cook who swooped in from midwicket with a quick pick up and throw into T.Shah who completed a timely run out. Mihir was going along nicely having hit some boundaries and looking in control until Mobeen with great bit of flight managed to drag him out of his crease and quick gloves from T.Shah whipped the bails off to take a very important wicket. Now sensing we could get through the rest of the opposition batsmen quickly Verma came up with the goods at the backend of his spell with a couple of quick breakthroughs to put us into a strong position. It was left to Malik and Puwar to take the remaining two wickets as the innings was wrapped up with Town left with only 106 to chase. After the break openers T.Shah and Verma both got off to a fast start before both fell to good catches. This brought youngsters Cook and Woodward to the crease, who like the week before played solidly in defence and managed to take what extras were on offer to help creep the total upwards. After both departed Malik and Sudagarna came to the crease and with some solid batting and shot making, took Town up close to the target. Puwar came out to join Sudagarna who also played some nice shots to take us home to a comfortable five wicket victory. It was an excellent all round team performance again this week where everybody played their part whether it was with bat, ball or fielding and we should all be happy with the effort. Thank you to our good friends the opposition for a wonderfully spirited game and commiserations to Mihir. NTCC for life.
