Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 15 runs.

Match report Town won the toss and decided to bowl 1st on a decent track. New ball was shared between Patel and Malik and both started well and kept things tight initially with Patel getting the opener caught behind. OO reached 30/1 at the end of the 10th over. Next 10 overs yielded 60 runs when OO 2&3 went after the town bowling attack, despite trying all bowlers, the run flow did not stop and OO carried on playing aggressively. At the end of 30th over, OO were 160/1 and look set for a massive total. Town desperate for a breakthrough, introduced Malik back into the attack and got rewards straight- away. With wickets in hands, OO kept going at the bowling but a decent bowling and fielding effort by P. Patel restricted OO slightly but OO ended up with a very good total on board, 244/8 in 45 overs.

Town had a bad start and lost 3 quick wickets at the top by the end of the 7th over with 29 runs on the board. Ask was to grind and build a partnership and this is what exactly Anjum and Halai did, they both took their time to calm the nerves and got the scoreboard ticking, at the end of the 20th over, town were 86/3. Despite both batsmen well set, the next 10 overs produced only 37 runs leaving scorecard 127/3 in 30 overs. Last 15 overs with RRR 7.9, town batsmen tried to move into the next gear but a good bowling and a brilliant fielding effort made it all but difficult for both the set batsmen to stay on top of RRR. Next 10 overs produced 67 runs and Anjum (sleeping giant) moved gears swiftly. Just when it looked all set for a perfect run chase, Halai got out, trying to keep up with the rate. Halai played a typical 'Jessi' innings, providing solidity, calm & composure that was needed at the top when the wickets were tumbling.

Last 5 overs requiring 51 runs to win, Anjum needed some support from the other end but despite all the efforts, town fell short by 16 runs. Anjum, who was clearly dejected for not being able to take us home, clearly showed time and time again, why he is the king of chase, town's own 'Kohli'. He again demonstrated how to plan a chase and get it done with. A masterclass of an innings (107) richly deserving to be on the winning side.

It is quite evident for us to improve our game in certain aspects to win these close games, it is time for us to bring that change and work slightly harder than the rest. We are a good team and no doubt that we will turn around our faith, keep believing, keep backing each other.

As they say, 'When the going gets tough, the tough get going'. It's about time!
