Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI v Watford Town II on Sat 10 Jul 2021 at 12pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 22 runs

Match report After a spontaneous training session Friday evening with half of the 1st team (first time for everything!), Town arrived at the ground with slightly depressing weather conditions. Due to lost time, it was agreed to have a 42 over game. Normal protocols followed with NTCC losing the toss and being put into bat under tough conditions. A must win game, Town lost both openers inside the first 10 overs with the score on 28. Still a long way to go and an innings to build, Amish joined Sohan and started off well with a cut behind point for four runs first ball. What was followed was a brilliant partnership to bring Town back in the game. Both encouraging each other constantly looking at the score, hard running hard between the wickets on a tough outfield and rotating the strike well. They both fought well after a tough period following the drinks break with some quality bowling from a young leg spinner. A determined Sohan continued his fine form and bought up his 50 with a cracking shot down the ground to push the run rate with 200 in mind. Unfortunately, a very vocal WTCC saw the umpire succumb to pressure and Amish run out just short of their 100 stand in c. 20 overs. From 126 off 29 overs to 139 off 37 overs; the horrors of another collapse continue to haunt Town as we lost 5 wickets for 12 runs in approx. 8 overs. However, vice-captain KP had other things in mind. After a few quiet overs, the onslaught started, 6, 2, 6, 6. Some huge hits with some fine clean hitting, a rapid 32 taking NTCC to a very competitive total of 180 all out. Game on!

WTCC sent in a 15-year-old to open the batting and boy did he impress. A very sensible start with 32 off 8 overs without losing a wicket. No stress –Loomba decided to bring on his special weapon earlier than expected to put the brakes on and watch the run rate climb. The following 12 overs saw only 17 runs – a very vocal effort with high intensity; the NTCC boys executed a plan perfectly. Despite a few partnerships, they kept their head in the game and sensibly controlled the tempo of WTCC innings leading the required run rate climbing despite wickets in hand.

With a few big hitters in the crease – it was going to be a close game. However, the maturity the boys showed in the field to keep cool and some great bowling saw them home. Despite a couple of drop catches, Town also took a few excellent catches and were overall brilliant in the field (and fielding with 9 men for the last 5 overs!). The bowlers stood up and used the pitch well (only a handful of extras!) and shared the wickets between them. A courageous win where everyone played a part – a win to be proud of and more importantly keeps Town at the top of the table!
