Lutonian II v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 25 Jun 2022 at 13:00
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost by 16 runs

Match report Town turned up in Luton to a beautiful batting deck for an away game against Lutonian II’s, the current league leaders. After a quick toss that Town lost, Lutonian’s chose to bat first, and Town prepared to go out and restrict the league leaders to an achievable score.

Opening the bowling for Northwood Town was Sajid, bowling with Henry. Both openers bowled well, keeping their lines tight and some good, probing lines from the skipper helped Town dismiss one of the openers for just 5. Henry Myring kept his lines tight as well, looking to trap the batsmen with in-swinging balls but the Lutonian’s were very destructive, hitting anything slightly loose for a boundary and taking singles were necessary to frustrate the bowlers and the fielders.
After a good opening spell, on came Iqbal Anjum with his left-handed spin and immediately, he started to put the bowlers under pressure with his bowling. After a good first two overs, the batsmen settled into Iqbal’s bowling and started to attack any loose deliveries, putting anything slightly off for four and aggressively scoring off Iqbal. Krunal Puwar and Mairaj also came into the attack and the batsmen kept rotating the strike, looking to surpass 200. The late introduction of Het brought 2 wickets and helped Town shave runs off their total but Lutonians still ended up at a great score of 236.

Town headed out to open the batting and they started off well with some nice boundaries from Deepak and a great cover drive from Keeran. Deepak’s timing and class shone through when he took the team to 50 within 7 overs singlehandedly. After a couple of tight overs, Keeran tried to pull a shot and ended up caught, becoming the first casualty for Town. In came in Smit, who played a couple of good shots before getting bowled. Iqbal came in next and as soon as he entered, Deepak got out, bringing in Harry. Town dropped a few wickets, with Harry, Bijendra and Mairaj falling in quick succession. Sajid came in and together, they put a good partnership together with Iqbal scoring 108 in an attempt to chase the score. Sadly, there wasn’t enough support for Iqbal and Town fell short of the opposition’s score.
