Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v St Margaretsbury II on Sat 21 May 2022 at 13:00
Northwood Town Cricket Club Lost 6 wickets

Match report Northwood Town 2’s turned up home to another great track ready to bowl. With the sun out and the track looking good, Bury (St. Margaretsbury) won the toss and surprisingly decided to bowl. Town opened the batting with Deepak and Ravi and started off well with Deepak hitting a few good boundaries before getting bowled by a peach of a delivery by Bury’s opening bowler. Rahul replaced Deepak and played well with Ravi, looking good and starting to build a partnership. All was well for a couple of overs before Ravi was bowled trying to go too aerial and in came Kunal Patel. Kunal had a look at a few but then got caught at slip trying to play the ball square. Keeran came in next and after knocking a couple of singles, he threw his wicket away again trying to hit a big shot. Harry walked into replaced Keeran and rotated the strike well till Rahul was next to be dismissed, scoring a valuable 40. The dismissal of Rahul brought in skipper Sajid, who with Harry, looked to run hard and rotate the strike. Soon, both batsmen were dismissed and in came in Neel and Mairaj, who both played well together, rotating the strike well and hitting the bad balls for boundaries. Both the batsmen secured the innings and help town amble to a barely defendable total of 138 for 10.

After a quick tea break, Town was ready to try and defend the score and they did well, bowling tight with Sajid and Viral at the forefront. The openers for Bury played well, building a good start for them until Viral dismissed the first opener for 29. Through the rotation of Neel Kalhan, Mairaj and Rahul, Town tried to keep the pressure on the opposition batsmen and eventually, town started to take a couple of wickets. Although Town’s score wasn’t enough to trouble Bury, we still went down with a few wickets and some much-needed points in the upcoming weeks. The other opener Moody scored 66 before being caught and helped his team cruise to the total easily of 139 – 4 with 10 overs still left.

Town was left disappointed by the start of their season despite great performances from certain bowlers and batsmen but we pick ourselves up to move on next week and get the business done.
