Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Old Cholmeleians on Sat 18 Jun 2022 at 13:00
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 188 runs (Rain affected)
Match report
Looking to start a run of winning games after winning an extremely close game last week, Town hosted Old Cholmeleians and after winning the toss on an overcast day, Town decided to bat first. Opening the batting was Deepak Gairola and Keeran Sudagaran. After the first couple of overs, Keeran started to accelerate, hitting a couple of nice boundaries in a row, and looking good. However, the next ball, he tried to hit one too many and hit one straight in the air to mid-on who took a great catch for their first wicket. In walked Ravi Ramawat, who with Deepak Gairola managed to steady the ship and establish a partnership, allowing Deepak to score freely and reach another half-century milestone. Ravi scored well with Deepak, running hard on the 1s and 2s, building to a score of 39 before being caught off a slower delivery. Amish came in to bat with Ravi and after running well, he was then dismissed in peculiar fashion to a ball that bounced off his foot. Deepak Gairola was then bowled out, trying to go too expansive and soon Smit Patel was batting together with Bijendra again. These two started well with Bijendra playing a few nice shots before being dismissed for a caught behind. Neel Kalhan came in to support Smit and after a few singles, unfortunately, nicked one to the keeper. Cijine came in and supported Smit who started to play some great shots, including a reverse sweep and a ramp shot, both of which went for 4s. Smit was caught trying to accelerate the scoring and Mairaj Mobeen came in, scoring well and reaching 20 not out with some good shots and together with Hiren took Town to 255 off 40 overs.
After a quick tea break, Town looked to defend this total and so Hiren opened the bowling with Sajid, using the new ball well and for the most part restricted the openers to only a few runs. Sajid took the first wicket caught and then soon after Smit took another caught at point with an outstretched hand at the point. Both these two continued their opening spell and soon, they took another wicket each, another caught for Hiren and Sajid bowling their 4th batsmen. Mairaj came into the attack and after a couple of tight overs with no singles given, he made a breakthrough and bowled out a batsman. After that, the next couple of batsmen just stayed in, blocking the ball and seeing off the bowlers. Town were eager to reach the 20-over mark due to the rain coming on and they pushed to over 26 with the opposition of 68-5. The rain forced the teams off the grounds and after continued rain, the DLS used clearly indicated that the opposition were behind the run rate significantly and so this handed Town their second win this season. Some great performances recently and players stepping up allowed town to grab some much-needed wins, let's see what can happen next week against the league leaders.
