Northwood Town Cricket Club Won NTCC 4s By 20 Runs

Match report On match day 4, table topping Northwood Town 4s welcomed second placed Hatch End 2s to Chestnut Avenue. The table topping game did not disappoint.
The lucky Dhaval Shah won the toss and elected to bat first. This raised a few eyebrows amongst his team with the strip a bit damp and worn. But the skipper clearly knew better. Opening the batting were Town stalwarts Firfire (20 runs) and Bentvelzen (15 runs). They faced tricky new ball bowlers from Hatch End who utilised the two paced nature of the pitch and up and down bounce with good effect. It was tough going but Towns opening pair were resolute that they should see off the new ball bowlers and get Town to drinks unscathed. With only a handful of boundaries scored, it was down to excellent running and rotation of strike to keep the scoreboard ticking. First they reached the 10 over mark scoring 27 and then the 20 over mark for 45 runs.
After drinks it was decided to up the tempo. Unfortunately, that was the downfall of Bentvelzen who was given out LBW attempting to pull a ball to square leg. Soon after Firfire departed after driving the ball off the middle but straight into the cover fielders hands, who took a sharp catch low down by his laces.
A quick flurry of wickets fell with very few runs scored when Khetia strode out to the middle. After a few overs getting his eye in Khetia (27 runs) introduced his flair shots, the most eye catching being a superb flick off his legs to deep square leg. Alas, he timed one a pull a bit too well to find deep square leg a few overs later, who after a initially spilling the ball managed to grasp it at the second attempt. Town were all out their innings with a ball to spare for 111.
A brief turnaround and the boys were back in action. The Hatch End opening started their innings in much the same way as Town. Facing some tight bowling from Joshi (6.4-1-11-2) and Babukutty (8-1-14-0) and scoring no easier they reached the 16th over without loss for 39 runs when Towns first change bowler Khetia (8-0-14-2) snared their opening bat for 16 runs. In doing so Khetia reached the feat or 150 wickets for NTCC.
Wickets then fell regularly including a spell from Tripathi (8-0-28-4) which had everything from the sublime to the ridiculous including an athletic run out. Whilst not discovering the form of seasons past it is clear the king of swing will find his touch soon.
Hatch End put on a dogged partnership for the 8th & 9th wickets. The returning Joshi put paid for that with a bowled yorker and a chop on to seal the 30 points for the Town.
The 4s remains top of the pile unbeaten after 4 games and travel to Hemel Hempstead Town next week.
