Match report On a cloudy and cold day NTCC 3s headed to Chiswell Green near St Albans to battle 3rd division placed Royal Herts. The wicket looked poor, uncut and damp but yet again our imperious skipper won the toss and inserted the opposition into bat.

What a great toss to win. Before the drinks interval, NTCC had rolled and carpeted the opposition to 26 for 6. Young Myring striking off stump on three occasions, with experienced Jeet at the other celebrating three times as he waved their batsmen back to the pavilion. We were not quite sure what batting strategy the opposition had chosen to select but they were certainly not too far from the Kamikaze school of cricket. Their no7 batsman (in no way did he resemble the Channel perfume) put up some resistance chancing his arm with several big shots but it was our old faithful Bollywood superstar Pradip who soon shut down the run-scoring post drinks with two wickets. A wicket a piece for Smit and Karan saw the innings tamely end in the 26th over with a score of 101.

After our opening batsmen had consumed a delicious sausage roll from the nearby coffee shop, NTCC set about clawing away at the 102 target. Kunal (21) and Smit (17) batted brilliantly with patience and skill as the wicket continued to produce variable but generally pea-roller bounce. After Smit was undone by a carpet roller demolishing his leg stump, the innings was steadied by Pradip and Akshar who continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over so the run rate was never in question despite the vagaries of the pitch. Skipper Kishan (17 no) and former skipper Lal (6 no) solidified the middle order and wrapped up the innings in the 37th over with a flick to the boundary.

Today we showed that we can bat if we apply common sense and consideration. Sadly again the pitch was the opposition not Royal Herts but the 30 points were graciously recorded and further confidence gained in today’s outing.
